Grace Moore was born at Michael Garron Hospital with a rare heart condition known as Transposition of the Great Arteries. In her short life, Grace has made more trips to the MGH emergency department than any child should ever have to endure.

On December 12th, 2013, Grace’s mom Rita was concerned about her very sick little girl, and late that evening when Grace’s cough began to worsen and she developed trouble breathing, Rita and her husband Dave rushed her to their community hospital.
“Within a minute of us walking into MGH’s Stavro Critical Care Emergency, Grace was put in a room and given a Ventilin Mask,” said Grace’s mom Rita. “The doctors and nurses recognized immediately that something was wrong, and quickly did what they needed to do to help.”
Diagnosed with Viral Induced Asthma and Pneumonia, Grace was admitted into isolation, and recovered well over the next four days. Grace was released from the Hospital just in time to enjoy Christmas with her parents and younger sister, Sophia. Rita and Dave were grateful for the care and attention their family received at Michael Garron Hospital.
“When your child is sick you spend a lot of time in and out of emergency rooms. The staff at MGH has always been there to answer our questions, and they have always treated Grace with the most amazing care. I am proud that my community Hospital is the only Hospital that shares a partnership in care with the Hospital for Sick Children, it just shows you how dedicated they are to kids.”
The Stavro Critical Care Centre has undergone a major transformation. The expansion has allowed MGH to better accommodate the over 60,000 patients who visit the Emergency Department annually. The renovation has doubled the size of MGH’s Emergency Department. At a time that is so stressful, the new space will go a long way in reducing patient anxiety, and help the medical team provide the most appropriate level of care in a quick and effective way.
With so many notable accomplishments behind us, MGH is looking forward to commencement of construction of the new Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre. As the most significant component of our redevelopment, the multi-story Patient Care Centre will establish MGH has the Destination for Health Care Excellence for east Toronto.
