Dr. Gilas is retiring following 38 years of compassionate and dedicated service to our hospital and community. In recognition of his many contributions, the Division of General Surgery at Michael Garron Hospital is honouring him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Surgery.
During his distinguished career at Michael Garron Hospital and the University of Toronto, Dr. Gilas has trained and undoubtedly influenced thousands of trainees, surgical residents and general surgeons with his “rules of engagement” and surgical wisdom. He was a pioneer of the surgical skills training course for surgical residents at the University of Toronto. In addition, he has contributed to international surgical education by initiating Surginet, one of the first international online surgical internet discussion lists (listservs) for general surgeons around the world.
We are raising funds in support of the Division of General Surgery at Michael Garron Hospital. With a donation you will be able to add a memory, anecdote and/or photo to a commemorative book that will be presented to Dr. Gilas on his retirement by colleagues. Your donation will also help us honour his outstanding contributions to general surgery and surgical education in East Toronto, nationally and globally!
After completing your donation, you will receive an email with your charitable tax receipt and instructions on how to submit your messages and pictures. The deadline for content is November 14, 2023. We cannot guarantee inclusion of anything received after this date.
The book is now complete. Donate to Michael Garron Hospital Foundation in honour of any carer here.
