Comedians Will Arnett, Mia Jackson and John Mulaney tickled funny bones at our Laughter is the Best Medicine gala. Presented by BMO Financial Group, the sold-out event marked our triumphant return to in-person antics following two years of virtual programming. And, this year’s Laughter gala was our most successful yet. With three transformative gifts announced at the event, a total of $5.6 million was raised for Michael Garron Hospital.
“We’re proud to support a cause that’s so close to our hearts,” says Adrian Rocca, who co-chaired the gala with Ange Rocca, Sarah Amarshi and Wahid Amarshi. “Michael Garron Hospital relies on generous supporters so that it can help the community truly thrive. The gala proceeds will help address the hospital’s most pressing needs and emerging opportunities as it provides great care to 400,000 people throughout East Toronto and its surrounding areas.”
The audience of 1,160 guests enjoyed a night of elegant cocktails, stand-up comedy and fine cuisine. Among them were more than 30 frontline hospital staff who received tickets thanks to the generosity of several sponsors and individual supporters.
Toronto-born Will Arnett marked his seventh year as Master of Ceremonies at the gala. By supporting the event, he’s continuing his family’s ties to Michael Garron Hospital. Will’s father served on the hospital board from 2003 to 2009, including two years as Chair. In a recent Toronto Star article, he said, “When it comes to fundraising, a lot of the bigger, fancier hospitals get a lot of attention, but community hospitals need it, too.”
A big thank-you to our gala co-chairs, the planning committee, volunteers, all our sponsors and guests for bringing back so much laughter. Your support helps our hospital provide great care to everyone who needs us.
