Building the Heart of the East

Our Heart of the East campaign kicks off with a $12.5 million announcement

April 25th was an incredible day in the history of Michael Garron Hospital, as we broke ground on our campus renewal and kicked off the $100-million Heart of the East campaign with a group of 150 patients, staff members, physicians, neighbours, donors and partners at a ceremonial event.

And while we were expecting a big celebration, we kicked things off in an even more exciting way than anticipated with a $12.5-million donation by the Thomson family. This now brings Peter and Diana's total commitment to $17.5-million to establish the Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre.

“Diana and I are incredibly passionate about East Toronto – one of the most diverse and vibrant communities in Canada,” said Peter Thomson. “We can think of no better way to support our community than a gift to the Hospital that ensures the health of our family and neighbours.”

Investing in our East Toronto community

The Heart of the East Campaign is an investment in the well-being of our entire community. For nearly a hundred years, we’ve evolved alongside the people of East Toronto, providing care to meet their unique needs. With the Thomsons’ help — and yours — we will transform our hospital campus and create health for our diverse community.

And to mark this important day, we created a special video. Check it out here.
