In October, friends, families and neighbours from throughout East Toronto came together with staff from our hospital for East End Adventure. This first-of-its-kind event turned Monarch Park into a festival and invited participants to enjoy a scavenger hunt – all in support of Michael Garron Hospital.
“Having such a fantastic hospital in our community has been a blessing. Both our kids were born at Michael Garron, we’ve had to use the emerg multiple times, and I have many friends that work at the hospital,” says Stephanie Pennington, who has lived in the area with her husband for nearly 15 years. “I loved that East End Adventure was an event we could do as a family so that our children could also take part in fundraising and learn more about why it’s important to support our local hospital.”
Some 570 participants joined in the fun, completing challenges at local organizations and businesses while increasing their odds of winning backpacks brimming with prizes. Generous sponsors also helped us make the event a success.
“I loved exploring the east end, getting our steps in and seeing what our amazing neighbourhood had to offer,” shared another participant.

Over 60 adventures
There were more than 60 possible stops throughout the east end, each presenting a unique challenge. Here at our hospital, participants had the chance to sign a graffiti wall dedicated to our patients and care teams. By the end of the day, it was full of messages of hope and encouragement.
Back at Monarch Park, kids of all ages enjoyed a jumping castle, oversized billiards, inflatable axe throwing, a rock-climbing wall and live music. “[There was] lots for kids to do and the music created a fun atmosphere,” shared a survey respondent who participated in the event. “Love that there were so many volunteers available to help.”
Melanie Kohn, President and CEO of Michael Garron Hospital, attended with her daughter. “People turn to us at some of the most difficult times in their lives,” said Melanie from the stage. “Thanks to supporters like you, we are rising to these challenges and facing them together.”
Participants had been fundraising for weeks to support the hospital’s most urgent needs and emerging priorities: everything from advanced equipment and ongoing renovations to community-based programs and innovations that improve care for patients. A total $440,000 and counting has been raised to date.
A big thank-you to everyone who supported East End Adventure. All your contributions are felt by patients and team members throughout the heart of the east as our hospital continues to bring great care and compassion to everyone who needs us.
