A new era in healthcare begins now

Special message from Mitze Mourinho, President, Michael Garron Hospital Foundation

It’s with great pride that we are now welcoming patients to the new Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre, which offers them a modern experience of the care and compassion they’ve come to expect from Michael Garron Hospital.

Together with our donors, we broke ground on the hospital’s redevelopment in 2018. And we haven’t looked back since. Following the launch of our Heart of the East Campaign to raise $100 million, supporters like you heeded our calls for support, contributing a tremendous $126 million to turn our bold vision into reality. To see the impact of your gift to our campaign, please read our report to donors.

As we celebrate this milestone, renovations to our legacy building are getting underway to bring the benefits of updated spaces to even more of our patients. At the same time, we’re investing in the latest equipment, innovative programs and training for our staff team. We are also leading exciting patient-oriented research to help make healthcare safer and more effective.

All of this is because you and 28,282 of your friends and neighbours chose to open your hearts and wallets to support community healthcare. Among our donors, Berna and Myron Garron and Peter and Diana Thomson made transformative gifts rooted in love for their families and this community.

Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who contributed. With your help, our facilities are beginning to match the exceptional healthcare our hospital team provides every day.

As needs continue to evolve, our community deserves the very best healthcare possible. And Michael Garron Hospital is here for it. Because of you.

Every gift makes an important difference. Just look up when you next find yourself at the corner of Coxwell and Sammon Avenues and you’ll see a testament to what can be accomplished when we all set our sights on a common goal.

As we mark the start of a new era in healthcare, for people throughout East Toronto and others who seek out the skill and expertise of the hospital team, we know it’s vital for us to keep pace with emerging knowledge, new discoveries and the speed of science. And I hope we can continue to count on your support.

Thank you for believing in the heart of the east.

Sincerely,

Mitze Mourinho, CFRE, FAHP
